Description:Fluorescein diacetate is a fluorescent dye with biochemically active properties. It can be used as a marker for mitochondrial functions and nuclear DNA, and has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction. Fluorescein diacetate is also effective in inhibiting the growth factor-β1 activity of cells in culture, which may be due to its ability to bind to cellular nuclei. This compound has also been shown to have an antitumor response against HL-60 cells, which may be due to its ability to penetrate the cell membrane and inhibit cellular protein synthesis.
